Are Windows 10 Control Panel's days numbered?

Ever since the Windows 8 days, Microsoft has had two settings apps congenital into Windows. A modern Settings app, and a legacy settings app known every bit Control Panel. Microsoft has been slowly working to replace the legacy Command Panel with the modern Settings app on Windows 10, but as Windows Control Console has been office of the Bone for decades, transferring all those settings to the new app takes a lot of time. It's been five years, and that process notwithstanding isn't done.

With that said, the latest Windows Insider builds of Windows x accept feature IDs that make reference to hiding another fundamental Command Panel area: the Nearly System folio, and making sure other areas that link to it are too removed. These feature IDs are HideSystemControlPanel, SystemControlPanelFileExplorerRedirect, and SystemControlPanelHotkeyRedirect. All these characteristic IDs are disabled in the latest public builds, only they do be, suggesting that Microsoft is testing it internally.

Microsoft is getting to the point where it thinks the nearly of import Control Console settings are at present available in the modern Settings app, and that for well-nigh users, the legacy Command Panel is no longer necessary and therefore elements of information technology tin can be subconscious from the user. Microsoft isn't outright removing the Control Panel from future versions of Windows x, at least not withal, but information technology looks similar information technology will exist hiding more than parts of it instead.

In that location are nevertheless some Control Console settings that are yet to be ported to the modern Settings app, but the remaining settings are minor and probable used past very little people. For most users, the Control Panel is redundant with the latest versions of Windows 10.

This modify won't come into effect until 21H1 at the primeval, meaning the upcoming Windows ten Version 2004 release will still have the legacy About page unhidden past default. What are your thoughts on this possible change? Let us know in the comments.

Updated: Clarified that this alter is related to a specific function of the Control Console.
